THE AUTHOR, HERSELF:

SHELBY RICE is standing on a grassy cliff in front of the ocean. She is wearing sunglasses and a red

THE WRITER

Shelby Rice has been writing ever since she can remember (and perhaps before).  She is a third-year Creative Writing // Adolescent-Young Adult English Education double major at Miami University. In her free time, she plays trombone and bass guitar. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, she is biding her time until Starfleet is established; in the meantime, you can find her in any nearby library, worrying over whether or not the amulet she bought from Goodwill for three dollars is cursed. She often finds her writing scattered in the wind.

THE WORK

Shelby is treasurer for Oxford's chapter of YDSA and is editor-in-chief for a leftist magazine centered in that same town. She also reads for Miami University Press. She won the Montaine Award for Creative Nonfiction in 2020. She has been published in Inklings Literary Magazine, Turning Page Magazine, the Oxford Observer,  the Miami Student, and more.

THE INTENT

Shelby will not tolerate fascism, homophobia, racism, antisemitism, transphobia, classism, ageism or ableism. She wants to tell stories are inclusive of marginalized people, stories which make people feel loved and wanted. Hatred of any kind will not be tolerated.
